2018 Personal Documentary Photography Workshop + Group Exhibition
Workshop presented by Sean Davey, photographer and Director of The Photography Room gallery
The Photography Room is pleased to present the 2018 Personal Documentary Photography Workshop & Group Exhibition. Held over 11 months, participants will build a portfolio of photographs personal in nature, whilst also working on ‘mini-assignments’ that will encourage them to look at photography in new ways. Participants will be expected to contribute to group discussions and critique sessions, bringing their own ideas to the table and developing the confidence to engage with others about the medium of photography.
This workshop will aim to enable each participant to embrace their own strengths and interests, and will encourage the making and presentation of challenging new work. The workshop will include some technical elements, however it is assumed that participants will already have a good technical understanding of photography.
The end of year group exhibition will be held in both galleries at The Photography Room in Canberra from 11 November until 23 December. Participants will also have their work published here on The Photography Room’s website. The final exhibition curation will be an integral part of the workshop, with participants learning how to arrange, prepare for, and install works in a professional gallery setting.
The workshop includes exhibition printing (archival pigment prints) for all participants, as well as printing of the ‘mini-assignments’ for workshop critique sessions.
We are delighted to announce sponsorship of the workshop from Stephen Frizza at Rewind Lab (Sydney) who has kindly offered to develop participants' film (if analogue is preferred), Alberto Florez from CRE8IVE (Canberra) who will design the exhibition invitations and exhibition catalogue and ILFORD/CR Kennedy (Sydney) providing exhibition printing paper. Michael Cammack from Canberra City Framing Gallery has also offered a generous sponsorship deal for exhibition framing for workshop participants.
The workshop will be open to eight participants. Every workshop will be held on a Saturday from 10am-4pm.
