Enigma is presented in the form of an individual and the free spirit that assumes it. Enigma is a journey into a world of ambiguity, contradiction and open-mindedness, discarding time, gender, space and what is familiar.
This body of work features Eliza Sanders, a contemporary and award-winning performing artist/choreographer with no home base, nomadically dancing all over the world. Conformity has no relation to her. In many ways Eliza reflects my photographic practice with her spontaneity; unconstrained by norms, allowing her body to seek alternative possibilities and understanding. I always become excited as her body starts to express and create movements within the still frame, not knowing what is going to happen from one moment to the next.
For Eliza, the process of movement is very emotional. The collaboration of photography and dance is an alluring and challenging process; one that is explorative and unpredictable. I dedicate Enigma to all artists whose practice and survival is increasingly precarious. This is a tribute to their artistic courage amidst all the challenges that they constantly face.
