Sean Davey (b.1979)
Sean Davey's photographs are held in the collections of the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Library of Australia, the State Library of NSW and the Monash Gallery of Art. The National Gallery of Australia acquired Sean’s self-published book Dog Food & Oysters in 2013. Sean was recently awarded Highly Commended in the 2016 National Photographic Portrait Prize, which is currently touring around Australia.
In 2015 Sean developed a regional photography education program to coincide with The Photograph and Australia (AGNSW) touring exhibition for the Gallery of Modern Art/Queensland Art Gallery (GOMA). In the same year, Sean was selected as an Artist-In-Residence for the ACT Government /Australia Council’s Artist-in-Schools program, as well being as a finalist in the Olive Cotton Portrait Prize at Tweed River Gallery in NSW. Sean received the Runner-Up Award in the 2009 Moran Contemporary Photography Prize at the State Library of NSW, and has been exhibited in the William & Winifred Bowness Photography Prize (2007 & 2001) at the Monash Gallery of Art. Sean has taught photography at the Canberra Institute of Technology and currently works with PhotoAccess as a photographic tutor and mentor.
In 2011 Sean founded The Photography Room, a gallery dedicated to the exhibition and promotion of contemporary photography.
